And has called on the more senior officers to retire. She also spearheaded the removal of school resource officers in black schools in the NE part of the city. And mayor Ted is a feckless little wiener. If I were a cop I'd be disinclined to serve the city any longer. Zero support and open hostility from your bosses is a bad combo.
I had to run into my office a few weeks ago. Only the second time I've been downtown in over a year. It's appalling. Boarded up store fronts, graffiti everywhere, homeless camps on most corners. Open drug use. I've never been to Detroit but it's very much how I imagine that city. One of my biggest clients closed up their flagship retail store. Before the riots and pandemic it was that bad.
And it's a shame. It really is. I've lived here for 25 years. My first apartment was downtown (no roommates). Graduated from Portland State. My first firm. Got married at the benson hotel. It's a beautiful city and I have A LOT of great memories. Downtown. The Park Blocks. The Pearl. Chinatown. It's an amazing place. And sadly it's all gone. And none of our leaders seem to give a shit. Sad times in The Rose City. Stump Town. The City of Bridges.
