Only old and vulnerable people worry about getting a flu shot every year, because they are the people that the flu is likely to kill. We don't vaccinate children and young adults forcefully to protect the old teachers who might die from the flu, those people get the vaccine to protect themselves.
The same is true with Covid, if you would stop and actually think about it. You and people who talk about vaccinations keep saying that we will beat this or go back to normal or some other nonsense once we are all vaccinated. But it is not going away, and if we had 100% vaccination and boosting it still would not be gone, people would pass it around without getting tested because they are asymptomatic, and the "breakthrough" infections would find out that it is still here, and some people would still die.
If you have gone and gotten your booster, that is doing everything you can to protect yourself. You want to mask up, go for it. You want to run around in a bubble, I'm not going to stop you. But you have no way of knowing if the person who did not get the shot standing next to the person who did, who both ended up catching it anyway, is the one who brought it around you. All you can do is make yourself stronger. It is not up to you to decide for anyone else that they have to make themselves do it.
The article is written in order to get you to feel like you have to get your kid a vaccine. All the kids who came in with Covid were unvaccinated! How many was that? They are all going to get vaccinated now! So they lived, you don't vaccinate a corpse. You also probably don't need that vaccine now that you've had the disease, but sure, if it makes mommy feel good about Tommy not getting it again. Dr. Offit says we can't boost our way out, only vaccinating everyone will work, or we'll deal with this every winter! It is most likely going to be here every winter, and it seems to like July - August as well, so expect it then.
Your ID doc is welcome to do with his kids what he wants, I suppose he thinks that will protect his kids, and if another parent chooses otherwise, it is not up to him or the state to take those kids away. I don't understand what he thinks dosing his kids with a vaccine that is shown to not prevent the transmission of Omicron is going to do to help them in reality, since at most they would probably end up with the sniffles and stay home from school, but I sincerely hope for his sake and yours that none of them develop any medical issues when they obviously don't actually need to take a vaccine. You have no real idea of how safe the vaccine is for children for the same reasons people ran around talking about not knowing the long term effects of having had Covid, there is no long term data available.
I respect your opinion and believe you have the right to make your own informed decision, same goes for your ID doc, and the only thing people here are saying is that perhaps they don't see it the same way, and you should respect their ability to make a choice for themselves rather than mandating them do as you think best.
