No matter who was in charge.

The debt is just like the virus in how we react to it: on a purely partisan basis. Before anyone knows where they stand on the debt, they have to ask who is president. The Libertarian Party are the only ones who are consistent on this, but their candidates strip naked at their conventions, so why even bother discussing them (and I say that as a libertarian...a former Libertarian).
