I always liked Texas's approach: Perfectly permissible to use deadly force to protect property.

And if that property happens to be your home?...very few police would arrest you, even fewer prosecutors would prosecute you, and sure as hell no jury would convict you. That probably generates a lot of sighs in Pennsylvania, though.
