Some folks take longer than others to 'assimilate'...it also helps to be encouraging when
interacting with them...sort of like how you'd like to be treated when visiting their countries of origin. Btw, in our CA diversified neighborhood, my wife and I organized a yearly summer 'Multi-Cultural' picnic, where everyone brought food to share from their culture...along with Burgers and Brats provided on the park grill. It caught on right away and has very popular and the tables were shared...kids have a great time with a few organized games. Did the same sort of thing with a M-C Dinner every year at our Church Social Hall...SOLD OUT every year...and each year a different demonstration of cultural dancing and/or music.
Lesson learned...Be a Good Neighbor...and with People Being People...it'll all work out...try it sometime.
