His bark was way worse than his bite

He could have done many of the things he did without offending so many people. He has zero diplomatic skills. Or maybe he craves negative reactions. Regardless, his offensive remarks appealed to so many members of his intemperate base and then their lusty enthusiasm for ugly rhetoric egged him on to make even worse comments. It was a vicious feedback cycle that only made our country's divisions even wider.
