They are preventing manufacturing from transferring outside the US...not usually publicly announced.

"Hey everybody, we were going to shut down this manufacturing line in the US and send it to China, but now we aren't." Those things happen in the dark.

Semiconductor fab building announcements are being made, and I haven't really seen much of that until Trump started pushing for it. It isn't just "tariffs," it is the deals he is cutting as well. Call it what you want. The important thing is that it is happening, not that tariffs are doing it absent other factors. I wasn't trying to make a point about tariffs; I was trying to make a point about keeping American manufacturing strong for an attritional war we can expect in the future. Surely you agree that this is an admirable goal, and doing nothing diminishes our abilities in this regard.

You can quibble as to whether this is "bringing jobs back" or it is only "preventing current and future jobs from leaving," but the latter is clearly happening, and it is good for the defense of the United States.
