be timed to reinstate just after the elections. That kind of ridiculous timing would be transparent, and I would not want it either since it would potentially help him to persist in his policies in the long term.

I only like it for its potential to be permanent. If it expires with the election, then there is little hope of the presse being effective for it to stay….I would support that. I hadn’t seen the timing of the expiration.
