Having cut the cord long ago, I was searching for the final four yesterday, but when I got to my local CBS affiliate, it was evening news. I looked online and the final four games were on TBS. So now both the hoops final four and CFB playoffs are being held captive on a shrinking medium, cable TV. The NCAA is shortsighted enough to take the cable cash and thereby marginalize their feature events. That is really stupid. What is the biggest sport in America? NFL. Which major sport has the fewest of its games on cable channels? NFL. Which sport is moving toward wider streaming access, that is, toward the future? The NFL. Which sports organizations are doing the exact opposite? Major college sports. Really stupid, in my opinion. Next time they go to negotiate, they will have devalued their premier revenue-generating sports by secluding them in the cable ghetto. Even worse, by making their most important games less accessible, they shrink public interest in what should be their most-watched games. More stupid than stupid.
