He had a record of 32-63 as an NAIA coach and went 37-31 in two years at Penn State. Prior to that he was an assistant in the NBA. What in that resume screams great coach. You would think that Swarbrick would have been looking at a coach with a record of building programs prior to coming to ND. What was there in that resume that made ND give the guy a 7-year contract?
ND is stuck with him for at least two more seasons. He is bringing in supposedly a talented freshman class - hopefully they do not flee this sinking ship - for next season. If they struggle next season with this influx of talent, the excuse is that they needed experience. Thus year four will be the big year for Shrewsberry. Show great progress in year four, or he will be gone. Paying off 3 remaining years of a contract doable - while 5 years is not.
