I don't believe illusions because too much is for real.

The 13th data point will become irrelevant once the playoffs are expanded. That could happen soon.

If it expands to 8 teams I would like to see something along the following...

Bnieves

This "Power Five" and "Group of Five" separation is bogus to me
-
MarkHarman
- 9:52pm 11/28/18
A three-loss Pac 12 team would still get the auto-bid this season.
-
Napoleon
- 3:13pm 11/28/18
I don't agree that the conference champion should get in automatically. Keep it as it is.
-
MrP

Then why have conferences?
-
D2
- 1:08pm 11/28/18
Agreed. Let's get rid of conferences.

Problem is, you truly don't have the top teams playing for the championship in this scenario.
-
MrP
- 2:55pm 11/28/18
I'm still confused how auto ins erode the value of conference championship
-
D2
- 6:05pm 11/28/18
I was wondering why you were referencing auto insurance there for a second...

That makes a lot of sense.
[NT]

Disagree. It actually makes teams more willing to schedule ND.
-
NDavenue
- 10:48am 11/28/18
If the only thing that matter is conference play, why would you not schedule easy teams?
-
MrP
- 2:56pm 11/28/18
Your logic is inverted.
-
D2

Money? The same reason they do anything.
[NT]
-
NDavenue

No, it couldn't happen soon
-
Nigel Tufnel
- 9:37am 11/28/18
Again, you DON'T award spots to the Top 8. So no, Michigan would not be in.
-
NDavenue
- 10:44am 11/28/18
And what if your conference sucks?
-
Nigel Tufnel
- 10:56am 11/28/18
Apparently it doesn't matter. 9-3 Washington should be "in" and 11-1 Georgia should be "out."
-
Napoleon
- 12:11pm 11/28/18
And Potentially a 8-5 Pitt team could be in.
-
MrP
- 2:59pm 11/28/18
If they move to 8 teams, I don't think it will be good for ND
-
NDNEIL
- 9:33am 11/28/18
Disagree. ND would only have to be top 8. The pie gets bigger. Plus..
-
NDavenue
- 10:35am 11/28/18
Who would have gotten that non-Power 5 guaranteed spot in 2016?
-
Napoleon
- 11:57am 11/28/18
Western Michigan was 13-0 and ranked #12
-
Mayes1
- 12:53pm 11/28/18
And?
-
Napoleon
- 2:12pm 11/28/18
You implied there wasn't a UCF type of team that year, but there was
-
Mayes1
- 3:18pm 11/28/18
Not really.
-
Napoleon
- 4:06pm 11/28/18
2016 WMU and 2017 UCF are in the same ballpark
-
Mayes1
- 5:59pm 11/28/18
Only in that neither belonged in a playoff. Beyond that, you’re missing the point.
-
Napoleon
- 6:22pm 11/28/18
To reiterate...
-
Mayes1
- 4:52pm 11/29/18
Then Western Michigan it is. Cinderella story!
[NT]
-
NDavenue

Top 8 doesn't matter with auto bids
-
NDNEIL
- 11:21am 11/28/18
If it expands to 8, there would still be crying over who is left out. Also, this year at least two
-
Napoleon
- 9:21am 11/28/18
Also some difficulty in getting fan bases to travel to 3 post-season venues...
[NT]
-
TakethetrainKnute
- 9:31am 11/28/18
You just don't give the spots to the top 8 teams. Expand to six and...
-
NDavenue
- 9:29am 11/28/18
So, if we had the 6 format, three-loss UW or Utah is in. But either ND or Bama is out, if UGA wins.
-
Napoleon
- 9:52am 11/28/18
You eliminate the conference championship games.
[NT]
-
NDavenue
- 10:37am 11/28/18
Wait. You eliminate conference championship games but give the conference champs an "in?"
-
Napoleon
- 10:54am 11/28/18
Figure out a way to do it without divisions. Use tie breakers. It's not difficult.
[NT]
-
NDavenue
- 11:29am 11/28/18
Actually it is difficult. There are 14 teams in the SEC. For example.
-
Napoleon
- 11:50am 11/28/18
I just looked. The Big10 played 8 conference games (in an 11 team conference).
[NT]
-
NDavenue
- 12:10pm 11/28/18
So what?
[NT]
-
Napoleon
- 12:15pm 11/28/18
You argued that it's too difficult to name a champion if you done play everyone. That's wrong.
-
NDavenue
- 12:20pm 11/28/18
It is more difficult with 14 teams. That's the point.
-
Napoleon
- 12:35pm 11/28/18
They didn't all play each other before championship games started did they?
[NT]
-
NDavenue
- 12:03pm 11/28/18
Sometimes they did. Like the old Big 8. Expansion and the idea of two divisions goes hand-in-hand.
-
Napoleon
- 12:09pm 11/28/18
No, I don't see a problem with it. And I don't think the PAC12 or Big12 would disagree.
-
NDavenue
- 12:18pm 11/28/18
Of course the conferences would love guaranteed spots.
