I don't agree with the characterization of Pre-Columbian America as some utopia that would have continued to be a utopia if Columbus hadn't have "discovered" it (vikings were here first, aside from the natives that actually discovered it). The natives slaughtered each other as well and fought over territory and natural resources. But, Notre Dame as a Catholic institution should honor traditional christian heroes over people like Columbus who did do some awful, unchristian things. I don't really have a problem with covering the mural, as long as the history books and history teaching remain complete and accurate.
