That wasn't a great year for Heisman candidates.
The bigger blow to Ismail's candidacy was his relatively limited touches. It may have been because Holtz knew he was prone to getting dinged up, but he only had 6 touchdowns. There were a lot more stats that were there to be had.
Agreed on Detmer, but he battled his ass off in that Miami game. Take that away, and David Klingler was actually a better Heisman candidate.
