Board opinion: Is it scheme/coaching or talent with ND offense in big games?

The ND offense has not been able to score enough to be competitive obviously in these big games? They’ve never run the ball effectively enough and become one dimensional. The NFL is littered with former ND players that start on the line, WR and TE positions. We may not have a Trevor Lawrence at QB but the other positions have been solid that we should be able to score more than 10 points in these big games. I come back to coaching and scheme. Last night, Venables brought a lot of pressure, no surprise. The middle of the field was wide open behind the middle linebackers. I never saw any of our guys run pass routes to that spot or any quick slants. How can you go into a game knowing a defense is going to blitz the heck out of you and not be ready for it? Whatever it is isn’t working because ND has not been competitive in any of these big games over the last few seasons.

    • I think it is hard to judge the scheme because Book never gave WRs a chance to win a 50/50 ball [NT] - jrdjr84 - 11:34am 12/20/20
    • Easy. Lack of preperation. Look at ND openers, coming off bye weeks or bowl / playoff - oldirish - 10:29am 12/20/20
    • Coaching. When adversity hits they seem to just fold up. Can never muster a response in big games. [NT] - jonpaultoo - 10:14am 12/20/20
    • In my opinion, it boils down to Book - MarkHarman - 9:19am 12/20/20
      • Last week Book was the greatest QB of ND lore. The emotional swing of opinions based on weekly play - oldirish - 10:30am 12/20/20

          • Well, it's basically the same D as before. The play calling kept him in as a pocket passer this - oldirish - 7:15pm 12/21/20
          • This is mostly true. [NT] - Frank L - 11:37am 12/20/20
      • I agree with this - Mark - 9:54am 12/20/20
      • He won't throw into a one on one matchup even if we have the bigger better receiver [NT] - OklahomaIrishman - 9:53am 12/20/20
        • ^^^^^^^^^THIS was the problem yesterday. The difference when he played well: he gave WRs a chance [NT] - jrdjr84 - 11:32am 12/20/20
    • It looked like Rees coached scared yesterday. On 11/7 it was the opposite. He was aggressive. - NDavenue - 9:07am 12/20/20
      • Rees was Book’s QB mentor. He taught him everything he knows. - Aragoto - 9:41am 12/20/20
    • Don’t the first two go together! [NT] - whatsamataU - 8:58am 12/20/20
