Since the Church has dedicated the current year to Saint Joseph:
Dear Saint Joseph, spouse of the Blessed Virgin and foster father of Our Lord, while it is unlikely that you care about football, we know that you and all the saints in heaven care deeply about all souls. If it be God's will, and if it can do good for any souls here on earth, please intercede that the University which in its very name honors Our Lady might earn what we who follow football would regard as a miraculous victory. May God enable the Notre Dame Fighting Irish to defeat the Alabama Crimson Tide this New Year's Day, the Solemnity of Mary, the Mother of God. May this victory strengthen our faith and show the world the power of your intercession and that of our Blessed Mother, Mary. And may those who use watching football as an excuse to overindulge in alcohol have the strength to resist the temptation.
Amen.
