Trajectory of QB Recruiting Trending the the Right Direction

Here is the list of QB's recruited since 2011. From 2011 until 2020, QB recruiting was very suspect to say the least. Some were run-first QB's that did not operate well in the pocket. Some were short. Some, like our current backup QB who has been forced into action this year, lacked multiple physical attributes like height, size, arm strength, mobility, etc...

However, the last 4 QB's we've brought in possess the height, size, strength, athleticism and arm strength to at least be reasonable FBS QB's at a top program like Notre Dame. The two pulled in since Freeman took over (Minchey and Carr) are elite talents. If we keep pulling in a QB each year that is of high quality like this, then we will be in good shape in the longer term. Certainly better shape than Brian Kelly ever had us in.

We shouldn't again be in the position of having to run the ball 75% of the time because of QB limitations.

2011 Everett Golson 5'9"
2012 Gunner Kiel 6'5"
2013 Malik Zaire 6'0"
2014 DeShone Kizer 6'4
2015 Brandon Wimbush 6'1"
2016 Ian Book 6'0"
2017 Avery Davis 5'11"
2018 Phil Jurkovec 6'5"
2019 Brendan Clark 6’1.5”
2020 Drew Pyne 5’10”
-------------
2021 Tyler Buchner 6’1.5”
2022 Steve Angeli 6’3”
2023 Kenny Minchey 6’2.5”
2024 CJ Carr 6’3”
