The two biggest opposite spectrum misbeliefs that Notre Dame fans have..

1. It's OK to hire a guy with no prior HC experience at ND, as long as they are a great recruiter

2. We have to hire proven already big time NC winning HCs like Saban, Stoops, Urban, etc...

For number 1 the success numbers are so inverse when we hire experienced vs inexperienced, I can't believe this is still a thing that even earns discussion.

For number 2, literally the polar opposite of number 1...we have NEVER done this. No HC we've hired came in with a D1/FBS Natty already under their belt. The closest one we ever hired to being that Big Name sure thing was Frank Leahy who had a grant total of 2 years HC experience at Boston College.

Just hire solid, experienced HCs who are good recruiters and give them 3-5 years and repeat. This is the format we used to be the (then) program with the most consensus NCs from the most different HCs.

The sooner we return to our success model the sooner we can add #12.
