If we're ranked 10th or lower we are in jeopardy of potentially being left out, depending where all the Conf Champs are ranked.

It's highly unlikely but not inconceivable that in some years a 1 loss ND could be left out.

I think we are in this year with 1 loss because most of the good teams in conferences are scheduled against each other. Might not work out that way in the future though.
