Notre Dame played 8th ranked BYU in a hostile home environment and narrowly missed a W. BYU lost in 2 overtime in a hostile home environment to an albeit unranked team, but a dangerous team in a somewhat predictable trap game against UCF, coming off a physically and emotionally demanding win against ND. I can see the justification of both rankings as long as both teams win-out in the regular season.
