Which would be a worse scenario for ND vs Miami: up 2TDs or down 2TDs in Q2?

Having seen how sporadic the team plays, and the tendency to play hyper conservative and in a logic-defying fashion on both sides of the ball at times, watching UNC vs Miami got me thinking about what situation would be worse for us.

I didn't look at the box score, but Miami seemed to score on every or nearly every possession last night, so if they get up, we might not be able to come back. But it might also force the defense to play more aggressively to get stops, which is where I think is the defense's comfort zone and where they play better. I also think that if our run game is on, and we stick with it, we'll be able to put up points as the game progresses. Not to mention a more aggressive tempo offense seems to suit us better.

Conversely, if we go up by two, I see us falling into the Ash trap of shifting from a more aggressive D to prevent, which IMHO would be not good and would allow Miami to generate some momentum. Denbrock will also slow things down, which IMHO is not where this offense does best. I would say that their D is more likely to get a stop than ours, given how we've been playing, and particularly if we are conservative.

Anyway, neither is easy, but all things being equal, I'd probably come down on the side of down 2 scores in the 2nd. That said, if we come out and play 4 quarters of aggressive football and pound the crap out of them, then I'd take the 2 TD lead because we'll be able to dominate and retain the lead + throughout the game.
