Kelly was brought in to correct (unbelievably) three MORE mistakes IN A ROW. Kelly was the first somewhat competent coach since Holtz, despite being a jerk with a ceiling.

As such, Kelly did bring some competent assistants on board (although some were forced upon him due to his being blinded by his own hubris and stubbornness on occasion).

Kelly was a mixed bag. He was necessary once...but stayed far too long...largely because the University was afraid of itself and its recent past prior to his arrival.
