Chambliss came from a division II high school, so most of the scouts didn't bother looking.

He was also more of a wide receiver (legit 4.4 speed). I'm not entirely sure, but I think he played his sophomore and junior years as a receiver, and it was only during his senior year that he was playing quarterback.

His numbers as a quarterback were decent, but nothing outstanding, so that probably made his recruitment even more difficult.

If anything, he was more of a basketball prospect, rather than a football prospect, since he was a very good point guard.

With only one season of QB experience, it's safe to say that most programs that would even look at him considered him as a project.

In this day and age, trying to build up a "project" quarterback doesn't fit the mold.

If anything, Bobby Bowden's classical method of having a hotshot prospect redshirt his first year, be the backup for the next two years, and then start for two more years, wouldn't fly in this age.

Chambliss needed a lot more time to develop, and now that he's in his 6th year, he finally knows the game inside and out.
