Of course, he’s our last hope for democracy

The level of incompetence displayed is a de facto threat to democracy.

But you don't actually care about democracy, do you?

Keep telling yourself that.

It’ll make it so much easier to vote for Trump.

It is starting to seem like I'm less of a Trump fan than you.

Because I can see the only path that he has to get elected and I don't want it.

Chris is a political flatlander. He can't conceive of non-Left, non-Right.

That is why he can be so smug about this. He just can't conceive of people who aren't defined by the American left-right political spectrum.

I have long said that the American Left-Right political spectrum allows a slow march toward authoritarianism...downward toward statist / big government in the image below. Both parties can slide toward authoritarianism at the bottom over time totally unnoticed by mainstream pundits and political partyists. Left-Right partisans, including the media, can only perceive left-right. So, as long as the GOP stays to the right of the Dems, and the Dems stay to the left of the GOP, the citizenry can be distracted into believing nothing has changed, because the news cycle is 24x7 left vs. right.

Every once in a while, someone comes along who, unlike Chris and the other partyists on this forum, is able to perceive not just a left-right, 1D horizontal line on the 2D map below. That new someone can perceive in the vertical authoritarian-libertarian axis as well...they are able to see the entire 2D political compass. Let's call that person an Independent Thinker. The Independent Thinker can see when the emperor has no clothes, and isn't afraid to say so out loud.

If the Independent Thinker comes along and points out that both parties have been sliding down into authoritarianism for the past few decades, growing government in their own way, year after year, administration after changing administration, well, the Independent Thinker can be ignored at first (not reported on).

If the Independent Thinker gains traction in spite of being ignored in the news, then they can insulted and ridiculed.

And, if ridicule doesn't embarrass voters away from the Independent Thinker, then the Independent Thinker can always be investigated and arrested if necessary. Maybe get the intelligence community to help out. As Schumer said, everyone knows they have "six ways from Sunday of getting you."

People like Chris think radical libertarians and radical authoritarians are all radical right.

Umm, no, I'm not surprised that the president had no idea that he had classified documents.

God I hope not. If they ran a run of the mill moderate they would clean up.

The problem is that it's almost impossible to name one because you can't climb to the top without selling your soul to the radical base.

Personally, I would support a centrist third party candidacy.

I think we'd be better off choosing a president at random. Maybe we could do a lottery or something.

Thread Level: 4

I want Old Joe as the D candidate. That doesn't mean a DJT win though.
