What was the point of Iran’s fireworks display?
Are they really that pathetic? Or are they just frightened by a superior technology?
In any case… hopefully this is just sound and fury signifying nothing… out out brief candle.

Israel hardliners are cornered. Also,not all are fireworks. Nevatim airbase's 2 runways seem damaged
from satellite photos. Clearly some fireworks are decoy missiles used for collecting Israel air defense information. The bottom line is it's unlikely Israel and Iran directly have a war because
1. The two countries are 1000 miles away, separated by a few countries. How can they fight ground war? Air attacks to each other are possible.
2. Iran's proxy wars against Israel have been going so well. Iran definitely has no desire to fight Israel directly. Israel is in disadvantage position, couldn't figure out an effective way to counter proxy war strategy. So Israel wants to fight Iran directly more than Iran wants to fight Israel directly from that perspective. But overall neither country really want to fight directly given the geographic difficulty.
3. Qasem Soleimani is brilliant strategist, perhaps the best strategist so far in 21th century. Name others if you don't think so. He created and implanted the strategy that made Iran being a country that attacks anyone through proxies but no one can attack them directly. When Israel/US realized how dangerous he was and killed him, it was too late. Iran' proxy war againsy Israel was already well established based on his strategy. Clearly Iran will continue his strategy. Israel and US so far have no effective strategy to against it.
In the end, it's our stupid Iraq war that made Soleimani's strategy become possible and successful. We lost Saddam to contain Iran. Iraq is Shiite majority country, but Saddam is Sunni. Post-Saddam Iraq is very friendly to Iran, as we see this time Iraq allows Iran's missiles fly over without intercepting them.

Here are my thoughts…
1. Agree. A ground war is not likely. While Israel has the capability of deploying troops via an airborne assault, they would have difficulty in deploying heavy armor. Iran has no capability of deploying troops.
2. Disagree. Israel has done a magnificent job fending off Hezbollah, Hamas, and other terrorist organizations over the years. The only time their security faltered is when their intelligence service missed the indicators leading to the October 7th attack. As far as air strikes, Israel would be extremely effective if they launched a massive air campaign against Iran. Iran’s air defenses are nowhere near that of
Israel’s.3. The Iran proxy war has been going on for many years, even before Soleimani. Other than increased funding, nothing has particularly changed. Also, I wouldn’t call Soleimani a brilliant strategist at all. If he had any brains, he wouldn’t have put himself in a position to get taken out like he did. Dumb move on his part to even venture into Iraq.
Agree regarding the Iraq war. While I was in support of taking out Saddam at the time, I now know that I was wrong. It caused a power vacuum that allowed radical Shia groups to take control.

They had to do something
They bombarded two US bases after we killed Soleimani. It was essentially a miracle that no one was killed, or we would have certainly retaliated. But we let it go.
Hopefully the Israelis will see it the same way now.

The “fireworks display” checked the “retaliation” box for their base, but carried out purposefully with negligible effect.
Israel and the United States knew this before it started.
The only way it escalates is if Israel plays an unnecessary game of dueling banjos.

Not apples to apples. Iran telegraphed its shot which meant they knew and likely wanted it to be a
show only. That would not be the case with an attack on us.
Also when they hit a U.S. base after the General was killied, we didn’t respond. They should also not here.

Since we are such good pals…..I will say this. No, Iran would never have attacked us in that
manner, telegraphing the attack so that the missiles and drones could be knocked out. They did not want an escalation into the next world war with Israel. This is why the question is meaningless. That’s why they telegraphed their intentions. I will say that if they attacked us here in a massive way, we would obviously respond in kind if not worse.
