Common sense on the Senate floor. J.D. Vance delivered a factual takedown of our policy on Ukraine

and our foreign policy in general. His speech should be chilling for every Christian on this Board. Further, he carefully explains why this $61b will not be able to do what the first $200b didn't. And careful, Domer, he's an Iraq War vet who risked his life for our country, so you can't call him a Putin puppet.

I hope he's Trump's VP if he accepts it. It's not too hard to see a scenario when Trump is removed from office and the next President is J.D. Vance, Marine, husband, father, and common-sense Senator.

I first learned of him when seeing his book pop up on ‘Best Books I Read This Year’ lists from both Barack Obama and Bill Gates. So I read it, and thought it was fantastic. What am amazing life story, and his climb from poverty amidst addicted family members is admirable. I also liked that the book wasn’t preachy. After finishing the book, I did not have a sense of where he leaned politically.

So I was surprised when he announced his candidacy to be the GOP nominee for Sen Portman’s open seat. He was coming to my town to give a stump speech so I decided to go see him. At the time he was running 4th or 5th in a field of 6 candidates, and I didn’t take him seriously as a candidate. I just wanted to see the guy who wrote the book.

I thought he was an excellent speaker and he had a good grasp of the issues. I went up to meet him after the speech and shook his hand, and he was pleasant enough. But he was also too pro-Trump for my tastes. I really thought he would drop out, and was shocked when he won the nomination.

Still not comfortable with his Trump affiliation, but I’m glad he’s my Senator. I also like Sherrod Brown.

Mitt Romney on J.D. Vance...

...from the attached article...
--------------------
But as Romney surveyed the crop of Republicans running for Senate in 2022, it was clear that more Hawleys were on their way. Perhaps most disconcerting was J. D. Vance, the Republican candidate in Ohio. “I don’t know that I can disrespect someone more than J. D. Vance,” Romney told me. They’d first met years earlier, after he read Vance’s best-selling memoir, Hillbilly Elegy. Romney was so impressed with the book that he hosted the author at his annual Park City summit in 2018. Vance, who grew up in a poor, dysfunctional family in Appalachia and went on to graduate from Yale Law School, had seemed bright and thoughtful, with interesting ideas about how Republicans could court the white working class without indulging in toxic Trumpism. Then, in 2021, Vance decided he wanted to run for Senate, and reinvented his entire persona overnight. Suddenly, he was railing against the “childless left” and denouncing Indigenous Peoples’ Day as a “fake holiday” and accusing Joe Biden of manufacturing the opioid crisis “to punish people who didn’t vote for him.” The speed of the MAGA makeover was jarring.

“I do wonder, how do you make that decision?” Romney mused to me as Vance was degrading himself on the campaign trail that summer. “How can you go over a line so stark as that—and for what?” Romney wished he could grab Vance by the shoulders and scream: This is not worth it! “It’s not like you’re going to be famous and powerful because you became a United States senator. It’s like, really? You sell yourself so cheap?” The prospect of having Vance in the caucus made Romney uncomfortable. “How do you sit next to him at lunch?”

--------------------

J.D. Vance cannot be trusted...ever.

seriously compromise Putin's hold on Ukrainian soil...including Crimea. The Senate passed the bill by a vote of 82 - 18...they've heard all of Vance's (i.e. Trump's/Putin's) talking points, and voted to support Ukraine's desire for freedom...along with NATO countries who live right next to Russia...they know what's at stake for them if Ukraine capitulates due to lack of aid.

Vance will go down as a 21st century version of Neville Chamberlain.

Their supporting Ukraine is supporting Ukraine to fight, not to seek peace. As Boris Johnson made it clear to Zelensky regarding to Istanbul agreement with Russia: We (west) won't sign it. If you sign it, you will be on your own in the future. If you don't sign it we will support you to fight. Clearly Ukraine is an ally and valuable to the west only if they fight Russia. Otherwise they're worthless to the West.

You left out some key details, Chicom… Ukraine also was to accept that the Crimea was Russian territory, and recognize Donetsk and Luhansk as independent states; Putin claimed that Russia was ready to halt military operations.

Putin lied and lied. If Ukraine would have capitulated, Vlad would have demanded more. Stop kidding yourself.

Minsk agreement proved that. Istanbul treaty again proved that.

US hold the key, not just on negotiation of Ukraine-Russia, but also on any negotiations of military conflict in this world. Neocon/Neolib want to be the world police and the world developed dependency on the role US has Been playing. But in the case of Ukraine, neocon/neolib invested too much, just ask Nueland and Soros about it. No way they want Ukraine to be neutral.

highlights your total lack of understanding of the battle on the ground. We don't produce enough air defense missiles to protect Ukraine, much less ourselves, Taiwan and Israel. And now Russia has turned 1,000kg dumb bombs into smart glide bombs that it can drop on Zelenky's toilet if they want. You will never be able to achieve a military stalemate in these circumstances.
