...there is no need for a national Electoral College...even the smallest state gets 2 Senators...just like the largest.

The Electoral College was created to protect the minority from the tyranny of the majority.

The Federal Government is there to serve the states — not the other way around. All of it’s powers derive from the limited enumerated powers granted by the states.

No one packed SCOTUS. Appointing justices as the Constitution allows, without expanding the court, is not packing. None of those appointments were unprecedented. Similar appointments were made in the past under similar circumstances (upcoming election).

It is disingenuous to call that "packing" without telling everyone that you are changing the definition of the term.

Disagree. What the GOP did is politics, and it has precedent. Packing is what FDR threatened to do.

FDR was going to change the very structure of the court in order to immediately place on the court a majority of his own choosing.

Your grocery stores are no less important than large metropolitan areas. They are vital to the very existence of city dwellers. The fact is, very few countries have such diverse living experiences. There is no reason that the State of California, with its large population should dictate how someone in Montana lives without winning the electoral college. It would disenfranchise the fly over states. The Electoral college is integral to protecting the minority from the majority. You may not like it because a particular side won or lost. But it will protect you when you suddenly become the minority voter. It’s genius has been lost on education geared toward teaching to the lowest common denominator.

Thread Level: 5

The State of California has many rural areas. So do other blue states. I wouldn’t change the EC.

It’s a trade off made by people wiser than me. Just don’t say it represents the will of the people when a prez candidate can lose by 5 million votes or more and be elected.
