Here's Gov. Whitmer's response to the MCC...

    ------------------
Gov. Gretchen Whitmer (D-MI) issued a statement on Saturday apologizing for a video that appeared to mock the Catholic faith.

In the statement, she said she “would never do something to denigrate someone’s faith,” adding that the video, which touches on the CHIPS Act, “has been construed as something it was never intended to be.”

“Over 25 years in public service, I would never do something to denigrate someone’s faith. I’ve used my platform to stand up for people’s right to hold and practice their personal religious beliefs. My team has spoken to the Michigan Catholic Conference. What was supposed to be a video about the importance of the CHIPS Act to Michigan jobs, has been construed as something it was never intended to be, and I apologize for that,” Whitmer said.

In the video posted by social media influencer and former MSNBC columnist Liz Plank on Friday, Whitmer, donning a camouflage Harris-Walz campaign hat, is seen feeding a Dorito to a kneeling Plank.

The video is captioned: “If he won’t, Gretchen Whitmer will. Chips aren’t just delicious, the CHIPS Act is a game-changer for U.S. tech and manufacturing, boosting domestic production of semiconductors to reduce reliance on foreign suppliers. Donald Trump would put that at risk.”
    ----------------

btw, Kneeling while receiving the Eucharist ended with Vatican II...I doubt that anyone involved knows about that (although I do ;-))...IMO, there is no way Gov. Whitmer would consciously seek to denigrate ANY religion's practices...for what possible political gain can you imagine such an act?...especially just weeks before an election. To the contrary, some MI Bishops have previously sought to engage in politics by denigrating Joe Biden, who was welcomed by our Pope. If anyone is trying to score political points, it's the Bishops and Republican partisans.

"Michigan bishop calls Biden 'stupid' Catholic who doesn't understand faith"...some bishops are not

shy about politicizing their faith...I suspect that this pearl clutching exercise is just another example...with no attention paid to the benefits Michiganders will realize from the Biden/Whitmer CHIPS Act, which is all the Tik Tok meme was about.

Only "Stupid People" would think that a Governor would purposely try to alienate a major faith within their state...can't fix Stupid.

Question: Do you believe in the Real Presence in the consecrated host (e.g., transubstantiation)?

I don't post often, but his reply to Whitmer's mockery is another example of his and some of his elitist board cohorts hypocrisy and "cafeteria" catholic beliefs. As usual he will go to his liberal research chest and reply.
Whatever the Michigan Bishop's problem is with Biden has nothing to do with Whitmer's mockery.

That utterance by the Bishop illustrates his (and others') willingness to politicize the Catholic

faith with an inappropriate and unnecessary criticism of Joe Biden's faith. Bishop Gruss, and other Republican aligned prelates focus on just one issue...Abortion...and fail to raise their voices to the same octave in criticism of Trump's treatment of immigrants, who are often deeply Catholic...nor does he and they express any concern for the lives of women who are victimized by forced and/or coerced pregnancies they never wanted.

As President, Joe Biden is responsible for the interests of the entire nation...not just Conservative Catholics, or Evangelical Christians who offer no remedies for innocent women victimized by sexual assault resulting in life changing...and sometimes, life-ending...pregnancies. JB's concerns also include many other serious issues, both Domestic and International...so for the Bishops to urge Catholics to not vote for Biden, they are sanctioning Trump who tried to overthrow our democracy and promise to allow our worst enemy free reign to do "Whatever he wants" with Ukraine, which would include mass assassinations and the ending of any hope for their own democracy.

Those Bishops need to preach about ALL issues affecting the human condition...provide meaningful insight in light of Christ's teachings and then encourage their congregations to discern for themselves when judging who to vote for.

I am wasting my time, but please explain how and when Trump mistreated legal immigrants. His and what should be all our concern is Biden's open door policy allowing the flow of illegal immigrants into our country.
Look into your research files and tell us how you determined that most illegal immigrants are pious practicing catholics. The abortion issue for raped women is a valid issue. Is it possible that your obsession with this issue might be that you would prefer no abortion restrictions. My fellow uneducated whites, cultist, morons ( according to some of your liberal cohorts), anxiously await reading your research reply. Not really.

You're not wasting your time...to the contrary, you bring up even more opportunities to highlight

why DJT must never inhabit the Oval Office...

First off, you ask when Trump mistreated immigrants...it's amazing to me that you could ask such a question...have you forgotten his infamous "Zero Tolerance" program that purposely ripped children from their mothers arms with absolutely no plan on how to reunite those traumatized kids with their Moms and Dads?...~1,400 are still separated...if that doesn't jog your memory, I've attached a Forbes article that might help...one of dozens if not hundreds that covered it...AND, Trump vows to do it again should he win in 2024. If that doesn't rub you the wrong way then you are just as bad a human being as he is.

We are a nation of laws and only Congress can provide the funding...and policy...to control the volume of immigrants admitted into our country...I've posted Trump's own call, in 2019, for Congress to take action, but his MAGA legislators would not negotiate a bipartisan Bill...it took four more years...under Joe Biden, to get such a Bill agreed upon, only to have it torpedoed by Trump so that he could get unthinking MAGA types to focus on the problem and not the solution that Biden helped craft...btw, that kept High Tech Fentanyl scanners from being authorized and installed at border check points where huge amounts of the drug are trafficked (thousands of cars and trucks through Laredo alone). Joe Biden isn't keeping our border "open."..Trump is...that's a fact...just ask GOP Senator Lankford.

As regards the faith of immigrants, a PEW Research study found at least half of them are Catholic from Mexico and Central America...you could have found that out almost instantly with your keyboard...provided you thought to ask the question of yourself before posting it.

One thing you have right is the plight of women who are subjected to pregnancies they never wanted...it's enough that they have to suffer miscarriages (~1M/yr in the U.S.), or suffer denial of IVF when they desperately want to have children...does government have to question their menstrual cycles in a dragnet to find possible abortion attempts, regardless of the reasoning for them?...this is insanity, bordering on Sadism...Enough is Enough...and women in America will never stop fighting for Their Control of Reproductive decision making.

I invite your replies...don't be disingenuous like Ned...

Re: You're not wasting your time...to the contrary, you bring up even more opportunities to highlight

Ned is always straightforward, apparently you find this a problem. I question Biden's human concerns welcoming the overwhelming numbers of illegal immigrants knowing the problems creating by the Border staff.
I have to believe the majority of illegals knew the possibility of family separation. If I am a bad human for being more concerned for those immigrants seeking legal entry, so be it.

Six prominent Dems voted no on the supposed bypartisan Bill. Apparently they realized the Bill was lacking.

You state that 50% of Mexican and Central America immigrants are practicing catholics. How do you and your research sources know if they are practicing. I would venture that the majority of cartel gang members
are catholic. I doubt they are practicing. The number of illegal immigrants from adversary countries let loose in our country is unknown and a disgrace. We are just beginning to realize what national security issues our
                country is facing.

I am 84 yrs old and should never have replied to your liberal beliefs. Therefore I wii ignore your post going forward.

                • Level 8

"...please explain how and when Trump mistreated legal immigrants."...your words...and I gave you

the example of DJT's "Zero Tolerance" program of Knowingly ripping children from their Mothers' arms, with no plan for EVER re-uniting them...and he PROMISES to do it again if re-elected...if that doesn't register as mistreating immigrants, then you are NOT the "Practicing Catholic" you think you are.

btw, any undocumented immigrant stopped at our border and admitted into the country is here LEGALLY...they are just in the process of gaining resident status, and perhaps eventual Citizenship...they deserve to be treated with respect and dignity (see "Dignitas Infinita")...the United States of America is a country based on a Constitution and the Rule of Law...those admitted immigrants are following those laws which can only be changed by Congress.

If you still hold the view that it's OK to rip children from their Mothers arms for the sole purpose of terrorizing them and others into not even applying for entry, then you've learned very little in 84 years.

As for the Senate Bipartisan Immigration Bill...virtually ALL Bills are compromises...not everyone agrees with every element in them...but the way government, and Progress is made is through majority votes...In Congress as well as elections for President...do you understand that simple fact?

I cited a PEW Research study that found the percentage of Catholics among immigrants...you're good enough with a computer to log onto this forum...go do the research yourself and get back to us with what you've found...also, given your demonstrated lack of interest in following "Dignitas Infinita" don't go questioning others' level of faith.

I really feel sorry for who you've become.
