The list of reasons not to live in California is endless.

We have severely overpopulated a desert and stressed ALL of its natural resources past their limits.

It's no one's fault... just human nature...iike on Easter Island.

It's a beautiful state. Wonderful weather, terrific opportunities, beautiful mountains, massive economy, great people. It is the Alexandra Daddario of US states.

To be fair, they have mountains, i.e. they have mountain views, considering many states even don't have mountains and some states call their hills mountains. Also to be fair, I didn’t see/visit most CA mountains. I assume most of their mountains are basically similar to what I saw.

Of course California can be better. But the same can be said for every state, every country. California gets an inordinate amount of attention because it stands on the mountain top of States.

California gets an inordinate amount of attention because despite all of the wealth and the size of the economy, they're the worst in Opportunity and among the worst in Fiscal Policy, Crime, and Cost of Living.....most of which is directly driven by stupid policy enforced by a combination of elitist politicians and stupid grifters. They have willfully created most of their own problems by enacting policy that anyone with common sense could have told you would drive such a result, or refusing to enact policy that would begin to solve them.

Thread Level: 6

I understand all of that.

But California has been getting more attention than any US state (maybe other than New York) for generations, not just because of the more recent crime and cost of living issues. It's bigger, it's better. Beautiful weather. Beautiful people. I get it. There's a lot to be jealous of. Now that they're having problems because of some misguided liberal intentions, people want to pile on. People sure loved to jump on California's population decline in 2020-2023 because it supported their larger view that it was in decline because of liberal policies. Maybe that's true, but all of sudden in 2024 California's population goes up by 250,000 and there's crickets from the mass migration touts.

California is not gone. It needs a tune up. That's all. Another Reagan-type as Governor will go a long way to cleaning up their current problems. Still a great state. Still top of the mountain in my books. As you know I live part-time in Florida now, but if California were on the east coast, I'd be there way before Florida. And that's no disrespect to Florida, we really like it. But it's not California.

land.

Funny thing….the socialist minded liberals always pick the best places to live….and then ruin. Because they are selfish and want the best without working for it.

Regarding your offer: you’re eyes are bigger than your checkbook. Though I would agree that any acquisition of such land would ultimately be a great coup (if managed differently than Cali is now) - see Alaska, you can’t afford it as a country.

Canada’s GDP is about 2 Trillion with a 1.4 Trillion deficit in 2024. Cali’s debt is now heading north of 620 Billion and counting. You would incur a full years GDP in debt acquiring Cali, and then you haven’t even paid a penny toward buying the asset yet which aside from its poor governance, is almost as valuable as your whole country. Further, the present infrastructure and policy causing the debt would still be in place, and nothing in your policies would do anything but cement the problem. Even more debt would pile on with time.

Even if California were given to you (which is what you were thinking because you are a liberal hand out guy by nature), you couldn’t afford it.

You’re shopping in the wrong neighborhood.

Don’t forget, Ronald Reagan was once a very popular governor of California. But as the crowding made life more challenging people began looking to government to solve the mounting problems… which only made things worse.
