In the fight against an open border, shifting Medicaid costs to states is smart.

This effectively will force states that are pro-illegal immigration to fund the illegals themselves since Medicaid funding beyond a certain point will flow to the state. It's easy to oppose an open border when cost to subsidize illegals is buried, but once you actually have to pay for it, opinions and practices change.

It's targeted and similar in philosophy to what Trump did with limits on state and local tax deductions in his last term. You'll recall that the Trump administration capped deductions for state taxes because blue states tend to tax their citizens at a higher rate and by doing so deprive the Federal government of tax revenue on the state tax dollar. By capping deduction for local taxes, it forces the heavy tax states citizens to make a choice between paying state taxes with Federally non-deductible dollars or holding their politicians accountable.

Gotta hit 'em in the pocket book.

This takes away the loophole I mentioned several months ago for tapping into federal Medicare funds.

But sadly, if the illegal immigrants are working legally, they will no longer qualify for most state medicaid programs because of the very low threshold for income or any kind and assets.
If they work, they won't qualify for healthcare coverage which will drain their earnings; if they don't work, they won't be able to have any kind of meaningful life for them or their families.......not at all the false picture painted for them by the Biden Adm as they dropped the border and selfishly hoped to register them for their vote.
This mess that the Biden Adm left our country is egregious. The pain and suffering to both the country and the immigrants is also terrible.

and Social Security in states all over the country, including Texas and Iowa...but they can't avail themselves of those benefits. Also, be sure to keep in mind that the ONLY way to get necessary funding for fixing our border/immigration problems is through Congressional Action...even DJT called on Congress in 2019 to pass an Immigration/Border Protection Bill to "Finally" fix our problems (do a search...I've provided his White House pronouncement.). Yet he killed just such a bill when it was Joe Biden who got one passed in the Senate...prior to the 2024 election...go figure.

Back to Medicaid...even poor Red States, like Kentucky Strongly Support Medicaid expansion (see link)...so this re-try by Trump is going to face even more resistance.

Not sure why you want to fund billionaires with tax breaks, but choke off funding for the poor and sick folks among us.

All it takes is the passage of a Congressional Bill...just like Trump called for in 2019...but then

They aren't all paying taxes that support Medicaid and SS, and that's the problem.

...from the attached Wiki Summary...
----------------------
United States

Tren de Aragua began emerging throughout the United States during the administration of President Joe Biden, and saw a surge of migrants crossing the Mexico-U.S. border, particularly from Venezuela.[14] Telemundo, citing multiple criminal cases against suspected members of the gang, wrote in March 2024 that the group evidently "also has an increasingly widespread presence in the United States."[15] In January 2024, the Federal Bureau of Investigation confirmed reports that the gang was operating in the United States.[16] On July 11, 2024, the US Treasury Department and the White House announced sanctions against the gang and designated it a "transnational criminal organization". The State Department is also offering a $12 million reward for information leading to the arrest of the organization's leaders.[17] In 2024, U.S. officials at the U.S.-Mexico border implemented enhanced interviews of single Venezuelan male migrants in order to screen for Tren de Aragua members. Tren de Aragua members have been linked to crimes throughout the United States, including murders.[1]

Tren de Aragua first appeared in Chicago and its suburbs in October 2023.[3][18] Chief Garry McCarthy of Willow Springs estimated that hundreds of gang members were present in the city.[18] The Chicago Sun-Times reported in November 2023 that "A Sun-Times analysis found shoplifting and domestic violence arrests, but little proof of the gang's presence among migrants."[19]

In New York City, the gang has been linked to shootings, thefts in retail stores, street robberies, forced prostitution, extortion, and drug dealing.[1][14][20] Members of the gang frequently live or have lived in the city's migrant shelters. The New York Times reported that Tren de Aragua is believed to recruit new gang members from within the migrant shelters.[14]

In Aurora, Colorado, surveillance footage of gunmen attempting to enter apartments went viral,[21][22] leading the city's mayor, Mike Coffman, to state that the gang had "infiltrated" various apartment buildings in the area.[23] Such claims were downplayed by the Aurora Police Department, which stated that, "[b]ased on [their] initial investigative work, we believe reports of [Tren de Aragua] influence in Aurora are isolated."[21] Claims that Aurora was overrun by the gang were highlighted on right-wing news outlets. Former President Donald Trump, as part of his presidential campaign's focus on illegal immigration, claimed parts of the city were controlled by the gang.[24]

FBI agents in El Paso, Texas reported that 41 suspected members of the Tren de Aragua were arrested in 2023.[25]

In 2024, the Salt Lake City metropolitan area experienced an uptick of crime linked to Tren de Aragua, including a September 2024 shooting in the Salt Lake City suburb of Herriman. Most of the reported crimes, which included theft, illegal drug distribution, and sextortion, did not involve non-gang members.[26]

Despite becoming a frequent theme in Donald Trump's 2024 presidential campaign, it was acknowledged by December 2024 that Tren de Aragua's reach in the United States was in fact exaggerated, with the gang only having permanent cells outside of Venezuela in Peru and Chile, and even having limited success in setting up operations in Venuzuela's neighboring country of Colombia.[5]
-----------------

Now, back to the $96.7B in taxes paid by Un-documented Immigrants...much of it being for U.S. citizen benefit...not theirs. That's what you call a "Net" Benefit...oh, and the crime rate for Un-documented Immigrants is lower that that for citizens...since the vast majority are 'Over the Moon' to be here and don't want to risk deportation while going through the process of "Documentation" and "Citizenship".
