Look, I'm no fan of Justin Trudeau at all, but the $1.3B border plan was already announced in December and the joint Canada-US task force on fentanyl and organized crime was suggested by Canada two months ago.

What you got today was an agreement to appoint a "Fentanyl Czar" in return for no tariff war. I f that's all you were looking for you should have just asked in the first place.

So why wasn’t any of this mentioned before the deal? I didn’t hear

any of what you mentioned, by either side, until later today.

voluntarily announced and a “Fentanyl Czar”. Same with Mexico. How dumb can you be?

Thread Level: 5

It was announced in December 2024.

See attached link.

Not your fault because it probably didn't make any newsfeeds in the US nor would I expect anyone on this forum to have been aware of it, but none of this is new stuff. Which made the tariff brinkmanship yesterday so weird.

Likely Trump wasn't aware of the December announcement and the Canadian govt didn't do a good enough job of communicating it to him earlier, but when he was informed of it yesterday, he was good with it. So, tariff war averted.

Trudeau moves thousands of troops to the border right before Trump takes

office and you shrug.

Canadians are very jealous of America and get very, very defensive.

Thousands of troops? Their army is the size of the NYC police force.

They rely on the US 100% for defense.

When their military wants to go anywhere, we fly them there.

They really are like one of our states, and their military is akin to a state's national guard.

They even sold off their entire gold reserves. What self respecting nation would do that? They know they don't need it though. Why? Because the US will take care of them. We are their insurance. And, of course we will protect them when that is needed.

They are able to call themselves a "nation" because of their dependence on the U.S. and for no other reason.

At least he is trying, though. Better than pretending we don't have any problems.

They wised up AFTER the election.

As soon as Trump began to threaten tariffs.
