"This dynamic explains why the stiff China tariffs imposed by Mr. Trump are unlikely to achieve his goal of returning manufacturing jobs to the United States. Instead, the tariffs will force Americans to pay more for the same prosaic goods they’ve always gotten from Amazon. They will also push the Chinese Amazon ecosystem to broaden its horizons and, in doing so, strengthen China’s economic power throughout the world."

In my direct experience and in talking to others who play in my commercial space, the PRC has been actively working on gradually in-sourcing technology for the past 20 years, and in great earnest since the Russia-Ukraine war started, to become independent of US products. Any discussion of China markets for US corporations is just for the benefit of those who don't know what is already happening. It is a false hope to access those markets. We were losing them before Trump was elected.

Since the war started, they have been pushing all their companies to have China only supply chains...and US companies have been obliging, because they are losing sales in China, and the only way they can avoid showing losses on the quarterly reports to the Street is to license China corporations to make what the US corporations were making. (Set aside corporate espionage, which is definitely happening. They have also been trying to incentivize the West to give them this tech willingly, and it has been working.)

All this started before Trump. We have a system which encourages a global win on an inequal global playing field. But things are changing fast.
And the rate of change is increasing. Trump is trying to stop this. He will likely fail, but at least he is trying. Pretending it is not happening will only make the situation worse.

Act to strengthen U.S. supplies of critical components that matter most to our security (as opposed to sneakers)...along with the strengthening of Asia/Pacific alliances vs China...something that Trump is feverishly trying to destroy.

Trump's mission is to weaken, if not destroy America...the last thing his Handler, Vladimir Putin, wants is for America to be Great...and Vlad doesn't like China being the "Boss of Him" either...that relationship is very transactional as well...as explained in previous posts.

You worry about inflation from tariffs, but you don't worry about inflation from printing money. Why?

...as for reducing our debt, I've stated multiple times just recently that we already have a 'Recipe' for solving that problem...i.e. Clinton/Gore's Economic Program that involved our Congress as well as the affected parties in Federal Spending Cuts, plus increased taxes on Corporations and the Wealthiest Americans...worked just fine...got a 99-1 vote in the Senate and ended up providing a SURPLUS...WooHoo! What more do you want?...I have a good idea what Trump wants...i.e. Vlad's goal of eliminating his mortal enemy, the USA.

“Trying” requires a plan, discussion with experts, careful measured steps.

The financial markets are loudly and clearly rejecting Trump’s “trying.”

to use your words, obsessed with Trump, and it's not the Conservatives. We have a group who are mentally broken by Trump and hang on his every word and then panic. The last I checked; the Democrat party was sitting around a 25% approval rating. It's probably dropped since then but keep telling yourself you're on the "intelligent" side of this. You're not, deep down you know that.

I hope you guys continue down the path you're on because you won't win another election until you get your heads out of your asses. And I really don't see that happening any time soon.

If you had some self awareness you'd realize how pathetic that is. Your inability to recognize gross incompetence invalidates any opinion you have on intelligence. You lost any and all credibility you may have once had by continually supporting the worst administration this country has ever seen.
