Only weeks ago, Biden dismissed the prospect of the Taliban taking back control of the country as highly unlikely.

Where is the honor of running away after a 20 year stupid failure? Bush and every President after were morons on foreigan policy, especially in Afghanistan. Should have gotten the Hell out 18 years ago.

And he will be rightly criticized for those statements.

What should he have said in your view?

Whichever prez was turning out the lights on this clusterfuck was gonna take the heat for it.

300,000 troops (at least on paper) with armor, an Air Force and 20+ years of training by the best alliance in world history that cost hundreds of billions of dollars.

They faced a motley group of 75K, no tech and no training.

Our efforts were totally wasted.

Thread Level: 4

Then just say and own that. Blinken and the prez are looking like weasels on this.

Best thing JFK did was completely owning the Bay of Pigs fiasco even though it was sold to him under false pretenses and was the prior administration’s plan.

But the scale of the failure of the Afghan gvmt and army is breathtaking.

They spent twenty years pocketing our money and not paying their troops. Now innocent people are going to pay the price for their corruption and venality.

Then we withdrew both and essentially neutered them.

We should have just enlisted local warlords and paid them to run the war in their own natural way.

A gigantic setback for the United States. When Biden finally emerges from hiding, I hope the press retains enough self-respect to pin him to the wall until he answers for this colossal embarrassment.

It’s been faster than even I thought. But everyone calling for a pullout including me has to own that this was inevitable. You think Bush, Obama and Orange will ever own their roles in all this?

He had zero options other than to pour troops in and continue the fight.

It is the President’s responsibility to safely remove US personnel, assets, and Afghan nationals who helped us.

The decision to leave Afghanistan was a reasonable one, even with the Taliban resuming power.
