Bryson is a jerk. I believe the call was technically correct.
Why did it take so long to enforce it?

Because the rules were a low priority to Bryson. Take advantage of any opportunity and cheat if you can get away with --- the hallmark of Trumpism. And if called out, fake outage ... become a victim.

It has nothing to do with the issue at hand.
The reason it took so long is that word of the infraction only started after a fan posted a video
on social media, which then got referred to tournament officials. There was no R&A official on scene when Bryson hit his shot.
As for monitoring, the vast majority of professional golfers...and amateurs playing in state golf association tournaments...learn the rules of golf and abide by them when no one is watching...i.e. calling penalties on themselves, even if the occurrence was by accident.
Re: DeChambeau & Trump...a) there are numerous videos of BD being effusive in his praise for DJT, and b) there are numerous videos of DJT Cheating and falsely claiming golf prowess...not to mention videos of him purposely driving his golf cart across a green...iit's really hard to separate them when it comes to an infraction like this.
The only people who are 'deranged' are those who support Trump...after having seen the mountains of evidence of his unfitness for public office.

He improved his lie. There was zero chance he was going to get a clean shot at that ball if he didn't improve his lie.
The only part I disagree with is the R&A said his actions were "inadvertent". They were being kind. No chance that was inadvertent. He knew exactly what he was doing when he went stomping through the fescue. He went in there with intention.
Totally a penalty. He earned it. Good on the R&A for not being soft on him.

IMO it wasn't in his line of swing, then again I am a senior golfer who moves the ball everywhere
these days. Once in a while I will win a long drive in a captain and crew because I get to use the senior tees.
