Name a few best public squares in U.S. cities/towns? Why Americans are not fond of public squares?
To the rest of world (Europe, Asia, Latin America…), public square is the heart of a city or town. Seems most American cities are “heartless”.
Historical automobile-oriented development in U.S. can explain this phenomenon of lacking public squares in most big cities. But it is not persuasive to explain why most small towns of 10k or 50k population don’t have public squares. I feel Americans are not interested in the idea that using town square serves social functions.
Union square of SF, ugly. Jackson square of NO, just decent. Times Square of NYC, not square. It’s a traffic intersection.

Boston has multiple: Copley Square, Boston Common, Cambridge Common, City Hall Plaza - lots of other
green spaces.
I was walking through Copley Square a few weeks ago as Iranians were protesting Israel.

Well, the town has to have sufficent employed population. Many are depressed.
But, if the economy would come back in towns, so would main streets / town squares.
Jackson Hole's "public square" has a massive collection of antlers, shops, restaurants around it....
...you simply are unaware.
This is a massive country. It has many, many such areas in many, many towns and cities.
