Possibilities:

1) He isn't as intelligent as advertised.
2) He wanted to write a book for yet more money and thought that he would have political protection from a party he was certain would retain power.
3) He is a megalomaniac with delusions of grandeur who saw the diary as a necessity for historical posterity - an inside records of the travails of a historical giant grappling with the hard questions only few could ever shoulder.
4) He never thought anyone would be able to obtain it before he died ( see #1 and #3 again).

We had an amazingly effective treatment that shut down 84% of all hospitalizations and deaths that your hero falsely said didn't work.

And by the way, don't you find it interesting that they actually did RCTs with Paxlovid, a drug modeled on EXACTLY how HCQ+ worked (albeit with different chemical properties), and also found that EXACT same 84% effectiveness rate? Don't you find it interesting that they "had" to develop a new, costly drug that worked the same exact way as a very inexpensive drug combo, HCT+?

He was honored by an awful lot of left leaning organizations headed by politically conscious leaders. Those people knew better, but chose to ignore the obvious incoherence of his policies wrt scientific data for political gain and/or to avoid political retribution.
But this diary is from Fauci's own hand. It is irrefutable evidence of multiple lies and unethical behavior. The reality of the harm that he caused and his dishonesty are going to be too big to ignore - even for them.
Because he was such a cult figure to the Left, I suspect that they are going to go silent and do a "slow withdraw" over time. Eventually they will do what Fauci himself did and deny their actions altogether.
