“Moral standing” indeed.

You should see what they are doing in Canada. You have a toothache? Would you like to kill yourself?

To be fair…it is Canada. You’d think Rooney would have packed it in by now…

Just being Canadian would qualify as enough suffering for them

I don't agree with the law, but

it already provides that nobody is compelled to participate in a patient's decision to end their life. The lawsuit is about the religious orders' desire to counsel patients not to participate, not about being compelled to do so.

There are a number of supposed safeguards built into the law -- for example, two separate physicians must confirm the terminal diagnosis, the prognosis, and the patient's voluntary decision-making, plus there must be a mental health evaluation -- but to me it's just not a good idea to open that door.

But, it is clear that the nuns would not have been compelled by the State of New York to participate.

You do not consider that counseling to be participating?

Even offering the option of taking one’s life is antithetical to their faith.
It is indeed “participation in the process”.

saying that they were not being allowed to counsel against it?! In other words, “If you don’t offer the option of killing yourself, then you can’t counsel at all?

All end of life patient care would be subject to this expectation - it would dnd their ability ti carry on their longstanding mission for all practical purposes. Telling them to “bring in someone else ti counsel that part” would also make the complicit in the process.

I understand the ongoing case.
I didn’t understand your take.

I believe that I do now.

You have a different understanding of what is moral complicity than the sisters ( and myself and the judge as well) if you think this law does nit make them participate.

Just pffering suicide makes them psrticipatte
