This is bizarre. His attorney sent a Cease and Desist letter to the Athletic Director about a player wearing his number this year.
Never heard of anything like this. His entire basis seems to be that he told them he wanted his number "retired," and this legal action is based on him not feeling properly honored.
I'm no legal expert. But I've never heard of something like this.
That may be an issue when LSU files for summary judgment:
Keiland Williams (RB, 2006–2009): A highly-rated running back who accumulated 1,325 rushing yards and 17 touchdowns during his career under Les Miles, including contributing to the 2007 National Championship team.
Skyler Green (WR/RS, 2002–2005): An All-American return specialist and wide receiver who wore No. 5 during his standout sophomore season in 2003, helping guide LSU to a BCS National Championship.
Chad Moody (S, 2006–2009): A defensive back who wore the jersey simultaneously on the other side of the ball during the late 2000s.
That one seems unlikely. If they had, the language of the letter would have referred to such an agreement. Instead, they only spoke him having shared his wishes with the school at the time.
Absent any sort of agreement they could declare as a contract, this seems to be a worthless demand. No?
Which begs the question why he even cares so much about it. Seems like he'd be more worried about making bigger things of his pro career.
I agree that absent a tightly drafted marketing contract that protected #5, the claim seems frivolous.
Under any scenario, Daniels comes across as a self absorbed asshole.
Go win a Super Bowl, and then protect your jersey.
sucks, and i have no confidence that sanity will win out.
