Just got wind of this on my DVR of today's PTI (see link)...I realize most teams have transfers, but

5 of Baylor's top 8?...While I'm very much in support of players being able to realize their potential and be able to transfer to 'greener pastures', this notion of teams (e.g Baylor) being able to go out and stock up on experienced players, rather than the typical mix of seniors, juniors, etc...is to my liking a step too far...for me, I'd like to see some sort of limit imposed.

What do you think?

There is nothing traditional about college sports these days. The transfer portal has shot normalcy

to hell. Plus, college basketball was known as being one and done for many top players. I don't knock Baylor for taking advantage of the "rules". If they did it legally, good for them.

"Taking advantage of the rules..."...I agree with you on Baylor's lack of culpability here, but this

development strikes me as being more serious for college sports than the "One and Done" issue (which I'd like to see made longer). Given the opportunity for fame and fortune for both coaches and players by forming "Super Teams", I'm worried that what we just saw with Baylor will become more commonplace. While I'm not losing any sleep over it, the knowledge of how this contest played out doesn't fill me with admiration for a 'well-developed' team...one in which the coach presciently recruited outstanding talent and then developed them (ala John Wooden) into a remarkable - and admirable - group of champions.

I'm also wondering...given the limits on scholarships...what happened to the players who were recruited by Baylor recently and who would have been on that team. When five transfers suddenly show up in the athletic dorm, how does the coach 'fine room' for them? I may be missing something completely benign, but the scenario is suspect.

On the bigger stage, the question looms...do we have to monetize "Everything"?

My kid is living the scholarship thing now. She transferred out of a NAIA school to a D2 school.

She walked on to the softball team this year. The NCAA has granted kids an extra year due to the Chinese Virus. Now there are kids who are called "Super Seniors" who are going to be on the roster. Along with walk ons, and new recruits coming in, the coach is having to juggle. The average scholarship limit for a D2 softball team is 7.2. On a team that carried 20+ kids, its very challenging.

players at Baylor...hope things work out well for all of you.

Probably inevitable but will ultimately dilute my interest further I expect.

I have given up on NBA, MLB and now NFL of late.

Still enjoyed college sports although I know how corrupted some of it is. This will likely ruin that eventually.

Do believe players should get what they're worth as coaches and universities are able to profit...

I am a believer in paying college athletes to get them to stay at a school for "X" amount of time. Give the scholarships to kids who are going to make a difference in the world with what they learn.

I'm concerned about 'upping the ante' on schools so much that more and more of them decide to drop

scholarship programs altogether thus denying potential students - and society - of needed professionals in all kinds of services...case in point...had some minor, but excellent 'out patient' surgery recently from a former starting guard for Stanford (source of some fun 'back and forth')...while he might have gone on to the pros, he chose to take advantage of an outstanding education to pursue a very worthwhile - and needed - career path. This fellow could just as easily have been from a poor background (think "Hillbilly Elegy") and attended a smaller school that was teetering on the edge of keeping it's football team funded...you get the picture.

I think I'll write my congressman a letter.
