This is fantastic. Trump knows his followers are total morons.

“It’s not going to change a damn thing, but I’m still doing it,” he told anchors at an off-the-record lunch before his speech. (FYI: The NYT was not invited to the lunch, so it is not beholden to the off-the-record request.)

From the article linked below: "Privately, Mr. Trump dismissed his own new strategy as pointless. In an off-the-record lunch with television anchors hours before the address, he made clear in blunt terms that he was not inclined to give the speech or go to Texas, but was talked into it by advisers, according to two people briefed on the discussion who asked not to be identified sharing details."

It is amazing that his followers think he gives two shits about them. But they do. He is one of them, somehow! He loves America!

Give it 48 hours.

So, how does "off the record" work? Is the NYT allowed to print off the record as if on the record?

Evil preaches tolerance until it is dominant, then it tries to silence good.

This was a great opportunity for the D's to make Trump look the fool he is and they blew it.

He had no energy and wasn't seriously invested in his position.

The D's visual of Schumer and Pelosi didn't work and may have injured their image in public opinion.

As progressives and positive thinking they looked angry with old ideas.

At least you can see they looked terrible. It's a start.

They are bad.

He’s much, much worse. That much did come through.

With no net gain. It was the visual and that's what will stick for most.

They didn’t need to gain. He just needed to lose and he did.

That would mean we believe the avalanche of Trumps downfall is already unstoppable.

I guess what I hate more is the wasted opportunity by the D's, once again, not taking advantage of this type of gift. It's a weakness that appears to permeate the D party. Like Obama making big talk and not backing it up - Schumer doing the same. Always with this weakness. Frustrating at best.

Parties are by nature frustrating on both sides.

without ever adddressing the nation as to why?

Also, keeps the option of the emergency declaration on the table.
