We will never forget.

If this had happened in U.S., you know this man would have been killed by military or national guard or riot police. 1989 Tiananmen Square protest has been the most misunderstood event by western on China for 30 years. This is why Western don't understand why most Chinese don't like to talk about it and tend to forget about it today. Chinese are not stupid, they know themselves better than foreigners.

most likely executed.
seen everywhere at that time. Executed? I doubt about it unless the tank man is a mob, participating murdering soldiers. I personally knew a guy who is captain of bus fleet of another school. he blocked a 1+ mile long military vehicle with his bus on 5/19 during first attempt to take over Tiananmen Square by military (tank man's blocking was on 2nd military 2nd attempt on 6/3 or 6/4 morning). He was jailed for 6 months for that crime. I made acquaintance with a few students of his school during protest days. They told me on 5/19 noon that they would have buses afternoon to go to Tiananmen Square and invited me to come to take the bus. Our schools are in suburb, close to each other. The public transportation was paralyzed in many places of town and we all were tired of walking long distance to Tiananmen Square. This guy is our bus driver that afternoon. After he dropped us, he drove back to school. On his way back to school military operation to take over Tiananmen square started. He cross parked his bus to block military vehicle and let people enter the bus so that the military vehicle wouldn't run over his bus. One week after 6/4 he was arrested. he was released before Chinese new year. Considering his 6-month jail time for basically same guilty like tank man, blocking military operation, I doubt they executed tank man.
This allows for speculation like yours to exist...which is the goal of the censorship.
Given the violent response, the massacre of so many of the protesters, and the censorship that has followed in its wake, it is most likely that he was executed shortly after he took his heroic stand.
Why are you an apologist for this horrific act?

"most Chinese don't like to talk about it and tend to forget about it today."
What do you think the major reason for that is...pray tell?
they can fire without taking consequence of facing court martial. Instead they were stoned to death inside their vehicle. Yes, as you know, many soldiers did fired and killed people. Some of these people are innocent and some of them are mobs.
Though I fully expect you accept the Chinese government's figure of 241 casualties...
some soldiers. It's hard to describe them, but I believe you can imagine how they die. I just remember one soldier's mother immediately faint after seeing the photo of his son, all his intense were dugged out by mobs. (Fuck Chinese local gov official, for propaganda purpose, show the photo to that soldier's mother).
TTTK, what happened in the evening and night of June 3rd of 1989 is not pro-democracy. It's mob violence.
Admin: please excuse me for posting these disturbing photos.

I taught in China for a few months once. When I got home I got an e-mail from one of the students asking me if I could tell her what happened there. She was embarrassed to have no idea. None of her friends did.
And these were kids of the elite.
who was older than 18 in 1989 should know incident very well. Again, I know why.
Very few people have any idea what happened in 1989.
This Tiananmen thing was basically 24x7 in the whole summer 1989 on TV. It also has impact on many people's daily life. For example, if you're in hotel, you likely see police knocking your door to search at mid night. If you work, Saturday afternoon is mandatory time for all employers to organize employee meeting to learn official report about Tiananmen square (before 1993, Chinese worked 6 days a week, but Sat usually is slow/light working day). It lasted at least through 1989.

what's good for them.
What's your story? Are you here as a shill for the PRC?

the outright slaughter of civilians by the PRC military?
You were there at Tiananmen? During Tiananmen? If so, where and in what capacity?
I don't need sound bite, TV/news paper report. But there is no basis to have effective conversation with you if you know little. It makes me feel like a college student talking to a elementary student about physics.
They deserved their fate?
Again, what capacity were you there in?
From my perspective, it makes me feel like a brain surgeon talking to a cult member about why it might not be a good idea to drink the Kool-Aid..
by thousand people for months and 2 weeks after martial law was issued who refused to leave and fight with enforcing personnel (again many mobs' fight is brutal, Inhumanly). Don't be silly and hypocrite, TTTK. BTW, the people died is about 200+, not your 4,000.
censorship and manipulation? You show yourself to be a fool at every turn.
You recall Occupy Wall Street? How many of the protesters were murdered by the government?
You're purely a propagandist and apologist for murderers...and officially a waste of time?
They travelled and visited those families who lost their family members for confirmation. It's not accurate, but I think it's close to real # of death. It's much better than those baseless estimated numbers which often come without any info on how the number is estimated.

202 deaths at Tiananmen...and I'm afraid of the truth? You're rich...
You're a shill and a supporter of murderers. You deserve far worse than to be as sickened as you make the rest of sentient society.
Adios, loser.

Please tell us how Tiananmen was “misunderstood” comrade.
I expect I’ll enjoy this.
kids. They occupied east side of Great Hall of the People, where traditionally and officially welcome ceremony for foreign president was held, forcing government to move welcome ceremony of Gorbachev to other place. They occupied Monument to the People's Heroes, making it their movement's headquarter, successfully ruining another scheduled event of Gorbachev, wreath laying. Chinese government made too much concessions to these spoiled kids. Stop being arrogant if you want to learn more.
I guess they deserved that for ruining the wreath-laying ceremony. Stupid of them to want democracy. I have so much to learn from you!
Your love of Trump makes perfect sense.
I don't know how is your Chinese, but at least you know the number.
It's not very accurate. But from the note you know it's a result of 20+ years' investigation. The primary investigator of this investigation lost her son in Tiananmen in 1989.

But I think we might be able to agree that it would not make too much sense to accept a figure far lower than the official Chinese government number, which obviously errs on the low side.
The section from Wikipedia summarizes the debate pretty well.
No matter what the figure - hundreds or thousands - your position might be the most idiotic thing you have posted on this board. Which is really saying something.

Some ridiculously low number of Chinese undergraduates even know what it is. I forget the exact percentage but it was like low teens.
