If this had happened in U.S., you know this man would have been killed by military or national guard or riot police. 1989 Tiananmen Square protest has been the most misunderstood event by western on China for 30 years. This is why Western don't understand why most Chinese don't like to talk about it and tend to forget about it today. Chinese are not stupid, they know themselves better than foreigners.

I wondered what Putin's take on Tiananmen Square was. Thanks for clearing that up.

seen everywhere at that time. Executed? I doubt about it unless the tank man is a mob, participating murdering soldiers. I personally knew a guy who is captain of bus fleet of another school. he blocked a 1+ mile long military vehicle with his bus on 5/19 during first attempt to take over Tiananmen Square by military (tank man's blocking was on 2nd military 2nd attempt on 6/3 or 6/4 morning). He was jailed for 6 months for that crime. I made acquaintance with a few students of his school during protest days. They told me on 5/19 noon that they would have buses afternoon to go to Tiananmen Square and invited me to come to take the bus. Our schools are in suburb, close to each other. The public transportation was paralyzed in many places of town and we all were tired of walking long distance to Tiananmen Square. This guy is our bus driver that afternoon. After he dropped us, he drove back to school. On his way back to school military operation to take over Tiananmen square started. He cross parked his bus to block military vehicle and let people enter the bus so that the military vehicle wouldn't run over his bus. One week after 6/4 he was arrested. he was released before Chinese new year. Considering his 6-month jail time for basically same guilty like tank man, blocking military operation, I doubt they executed tank man.

This allows for speculation like yours to exist...which is the goal of the censorship.

Given the violent response, the massacre of so many of the protesters, and the censorship that has followed in its wake, it is most likely that he was executed shortly after he took his heroic stand.

Why are you an apologist for this horrific act?

I just remember one soldier's mother immediately faint after seeing the photo of his son, all his intense were dugged out by mobs. (Fuck Chinese local gov official, for propaganda purpose, show the photo to that soldier's mother).
TTTK, what happened in the evening and night of June 3rd of 1989 is not pro-democracy. It's mob violence.

This Tiananmen thing was basically 24x7 in the whole summer 1989 on TV. It also has impact on many people's daily life. For example, if you're in hotel, you likely see police knocking your door to search at mid night. If you work, Saturday afternoon is mandatory time for all employers to organize employee meeting to learn official report about Tiananmen square (before 1993, Chinese worked 6 days a week, but Sat usually is slow/light working day). It lasted at least through 1989.

But I think we might be able to agree that it would not make too much sense to accept a figure far lower than the official Chinese government number, which obviously errs on the low side.

The section from Wikipedia summarizes the debate pretty well.

No matter what the figure - hundreds or thousands - your position might be the most idiotic thing you have posted on this board. Which is really saying something.
