So I tell my kids and nieces and nephews that their number one priority in life is to make as much money as they can, whether they like the job or not, so when they're 57, they don't have to worry financially. This is the only way I know how to make some good come out of my financial failings.

Right now a high school graduate can go to the Dakota’s, Wyoming, and West Texas and make over $100k per year driving trucks and being a welder. If you train on the drill site some are making $150k and a foreman close to $200k. Others that are not good with the trades can make a lot of money in the hospitality business catering to the trade people. It’s a new gold rush. I love Mike Rowe's advice - "Find something you're good at and you'll start to like it" - and I often use that line when I hear someone say, "Follow your passion!"

Never said they didn’t. Try being a stupid electrician or carpenter. Won’t live long.
