God's Prepared Feast...for Everyone...not just a chosen few...

  • Level 1

Yes, all are welcome to God's Prepared Feast

But that's completely different than welcoming people who skirted our immigration laws by allowing them legally to stay in the country.

On the Immigration issue, it bears repeating...in 2019 DJT called on Congress to "Do it's Job" and

pass a comprehensive Border Security and Immigration Policy Bill...he asked for more 750 more CBP officers, etc...then in 2024, after months of hard work between Reps and Dems in the Senate, a Bill was passed that included 1,500 more CBP Officers,..AND enough Judges, etc. to reduce the wait time for processing (admittance and deportations) of undocumented immigrants from 6+ years to 6 months. That's the solution you're looking for...but Trump killed it since it would have taken his #1 talking point. Now look at all the chaos...even for American Agriculture, Construction, and Hospitality industries....never mind the killings of U.S. citizens.

We Can extend our arms to welcome immigrants after they have been given the Due Process that made America the envy of the Free World.

Btw, don't forget Fr. Brendan's mention of LGBTQ persons being welcomed to the table...not unlike the welcome that Notre Dame's administration and Board of Trustees have pronounced.

“Comprehensive immigration reform” is code for mass amnesty, which Trump never advocated for. The so-called Border Act of 2024 was a mass amnesty bill and an invitation for millions more bogus asylum claims and other avenues for illegal immigration. There are good reasons why James Lankford was the GOP point person for that bill in the Senate. He’s a pro-amnesty RINO, he represents a state that has a surprising number of his ilk in their GOP political establishment, and he’s not up for reelection until 2028. He played the John Cornyn game. It didn’t work out well for Cornyn. We’ll see if it works out for Lankford.

Trump was indeed instrumental in killing the bill, but there was much more at work. GOP Congressmen were deluged with calls and emails reminding them in no uncertain terms that amnesty is unacceptable. I didn’t bother with my two New Hampshire Reps because they’re leftists who want to grant amnesty to all illegal aliens in hopes that they’ll become Democrat voters. I did contact Speaker Johnson to express my strong opposition to the bill.

Are you suggesting that Republican Congressmen should have acted against the will of their voters?

My position is straightforward. The only acceptable treatment of anyone who entered our country illegally or violated the terms of their visa is deportation. Anything else is amnesty, no matter what euphemism is attached to it (pathway, dreamer, dignity).

To paraphrase President Trump, we didn’t need new laws. We just needed a new President who was willing to enforce our existing laws, thereby living up to his Constitutional oath.

Congress is responsible for creating our laws, and that includes Immigration and Border Security...

it provides the consensus views of all states and localities on the topic, along with agreed upon funding to make it all happen...in a sustainable fashion. Trump's Executive Orders have certainly not been squared with the CBO and are frankly grossly inflating our National Debt...by one account, to the tune of ~$1T...

As I showed MarkH...the actual details of the 2024 Senate Bill on Immigration and Border Security demonstrate Very Strict Rules on who and how many are allowed into the country...yet administered with Due Process for All...a Hallmark of what makes America the envy of the world for Justice and Fairness. Trump's actions are the polar opposite of that...and that's not debatable.

Reading your posts shows a real lack of research and education on your part on this issue, so I've provided you a 'Primer' on it...hopefully, you'll take advantage of this opportunity to be better prepared for future posts.

Trump alone did not kill the horribly flawed border bill

that would have permitted 5,000 illegal alien entries a day. Besides, he's proven we never needed it.

I know your bleeding heart wants full legalization to all who came here illegally, which is a slap in the face to all who came here legally. Interestingly, two of my good friends are of Mexican heritage whose parents immigrated here - legally - and both abhor illegal immigration and are strong Trump supporters.

You've been given bad info...here are the details, which are quite stringent...

          AI Overview

No, the 2024 Senate immigration bill (the Emergency National Security Supplemental Appropriations Act) did not have a limit or allowance of 5,000 immigrants or illegal entries per day.

How the 5,000 Figure Actually Worked

          • Migrant Encounters, Not Releases: The 5,000 number referred to a Border Emergency Authority trigger based on migrant "encounters" (instances where Border Patrol stops someone trying to cross), not a quota of people allowed to enter or stay.
          • Mandatory Closure Trigger: The bill would have required the Department of Homeland Security to close the border and summarily expel migrants if daily border encounters exceeded an average of 5,000 per week (or 8,500 in a single day).
          • Discretionary Closure: The Homeland Security Secretary would have had the discretion to use emergency expulsion powers once encounters hit a weekly average of 4,000.
          • Goal of the Mechanism: Rather than permitting 5,000 people to enter, the trigger was designed to shut down standard processing and turn away crossers when volume crossed that threshold
