"The Paper of Record" was duped...

... by fake polling data published by Wedgewood Polls. After being challenged by polling aggregator FiftyPlusOne, Wedgewood released a press statement claiming the fraudulent data was part of "an experimental project to demonstrate the vulnerabilities, lack of oversight, and overall low barrier to entry in the modern polling industry..." Wedgewood's conclusion? It is "Far too easy (to expose how little scrutinization exists in the media and public commentary)".

Whether or not Wedgewood's experimental project narrative was a post hoc CYA effort is open for debate. What's not in doubt is that the New York Times ran with bogus data and even incorporated it into their own polling aggregation. Would the NYT have scrutinized Wedgewood's data more carefully had it been favorable to Republicans? I think we can make a pretty good guess at the answer, given NYT's Democrat propaganda tendencies.

The NYT acknowledged the error...as did Nate Silver...but the difference in the aggregated result

was very small (1 pt in MI)...here's an AI Summary...

    ----------------

    AI Overview

The New York Times has not issued a formal apology, but it published an editor's note and removed 15 fabricated polls by Wedgewood Polling from its database. The paper stated it attempted to vet the firm before including its data, but relied on false answers provided by Wedgewood.

Actions Taken by The New York Times

    • Removal of Data: The Times deleted 15 surveys attributed to Wedgewood Polling published between June and October 2026.
    • Editor's Note: The outlet added an editor's note explaining that it normally tries to confirm pollster methodologies and funding before adding them to its database, noting that Wedgewood misled them during that vetting process.

    Context of the Wedgewood Hoax

    • The Admission: Wedgewood Polling announced that 14 of its 15 surveys were fake, claiming the project was a "social experiment" to expose a lack of oversight in political polling.
    • Impact: The fabricated surveys — which often favored specific progressive candidates in primary races — had been picked up by multiple aggregators and news outlets before being exposed by the election analysis site FiftyPlusOne

    Attached is Nate Silver's response...

Bottom Line...the vast majority of Independent voters, plus quite a few Republicans, have soured on Trump and his MAGA agenda...leaving folks like you adrift when planning for the future.

      Defending the indefensible ...

... is never a good look. The NYT likely vets their "anonymous sources" with similar rigor (sarcasm intended), as long as those sources are peddling information that portrays Republicans in general and Trump in particular in an unfavorable light. See the Alfa Bank "secret server" hoax and the NYT's dodgy reporting on it. The NYT is a leftist propaganda rag unfit to line a bird cage.

More on the difference between Trump Media, and the MSM...

        AI Overview

President Donald Trump’s claims that the Lincoln Memorial Reflecting Pool was damaged by vandals rather than contractor error have been supported primarily by Fox News—specifically a segment hosted by Jesse Watters, which Trump cited directly on Truth Social.

Key Media and Sources Supporting or Amplifying the Claims

        • Fox News / Jesse Watters: Trump explicitly pointed to a television segment hosted by Jesse Watters as an explanation supporting his narrative that the pool was damaged by vandals.
        • White House / Interior Department Releases: While official government channels rather than traditional independent news outlets, statements and videos released by the administration and the Department of the Interior (alleging arrests, police reports, and footage of individuals touching or removing pool lining) were used by Trump to back his public assertions.

        Context and Contrasting Assessments

        • Rejections by Prosecutors and Courts: The D.C. U.S. Attorney’s Office and federal prosecutors moved to drop charges against former Olympian David Hearn, attributing the damage instead to a botched contractor installation ahead of the America 250 celebration. On October 1, 2026, D.C. Superior Court Judge Todd Edelman permanently dismissed the case with prejudice.
        • Scientific & Journalistic Consensus: Outlets such as The Associated Press, The New York Times, NPR, PBS NewsHour, and The Guardian reported that scientific experts attributed the green color to natural algae blooms (such as Desmodesmus) driven by warm weather and nutrients, while identifying peeling paint as a result of contractor material issues rather than intentional vandalism

Compare and Contrast the NYT with FOX...the media source w/o published Journalistic Standards, and

found to have knowingly lied to all its readers and viewers over the critical issue of a free and fair 2020 election.

One slip on a polling source that was acknowledged by the NYT (Note: FOX has never apologized) won't sully the performance of the Paper of Record, like FOX's payment of $787M should.
