Raskin’s Universal Gun Registry
Jamie Raskin proclaimed that one of the Democrats’ top priorities is Universal Gun Registration. Putting aside the inevitable veto and potential illegality of such a registry and assuming Raskin and his fellow Democrats achieve this objective, what do the Open Forum posters think of this policy?
Would it contribute to affordability? Would it end the Iran war? Would it play a role in the inevitable impeachment hearings? Is it possible that the federal government would abuse this data to violate citizens’ civil rights and an explicit Constitutional right, how so, and what is the probability of abuse? What do you think Americans’ compliance rate would be? What do you think gun owners’ response would be?
Approximately 85 million Americans personally own at least one firearm, per Pew and Gallup. That is no doubt a low-ball number because many gun owners would never candidly answer survey questions about gun ownership. Whether it’s 85 million or 100+ million, America gun owners possess 500 million or more firearms. All those numbers will grow significantly in the wake of the blue wave and Raskin’s comments.
Democrats are treading on very thin ice with this policy. It’s one thing to promise Americans a bunch of “free” shit and never deliver when reality sets in. It’s another thing altogether to take the obvious first step toward confiscation, which would be a very dangerous occupation for anyone tasked to do it.
