...those of the B.L.M. rooting variety.
But really, it's tough to stop all that goes on in the city. These protests in midtown and downtown are just putting most of the city on edge even when they're not overly large events. Other
than that, the mask wearing has improved on the subway but not so good in the Uptown neighborhoods. It's as if the virus has disappeared and you know, it's gonna get worse before
it gets better for the uptown folk. (above 110). A pal of mine just opened a new restaurant and that's gotta be tough. It's a summertime autumn spot so he and his investors are gonna take a
huge hit.
"As New York has begun its reopening process, accessible open spaces are more important than ever," de Blasio said. "While it pains me to call off some of the city's beloved events, our focus now must be the prioritization of city space for public use and the continuation of social distancing."
Events that do not conflict with "open streets" or "open restaurant" areas can still apply for a permit, the statement said.
De Blasio said large events means things like street fairs, concerts and parades.
"Things that here in the city can mean not just thousands, tens of thousands, hundreds of thousands of people. It's just not time for that," he told CNN on Thursday.
When asked if people would be able to gather to protest, de Blasio said that was an area of sensitivity.
"We understand at this moment in history, people are talking about the need for historic changes," he said. "This is a historic moment of change. We have to respect that, but also say to people the kinds of gatherings we're used to – the parades, the fairs – we just can't have that while we're focusing on health right now."

It's way too tough to "stop" things in a city that big (short of a harsh show of force). We just can't. I just wish government leaders would be focusing more on workarounds that still give people freedoms they want.
You mentioned masks on subways. That's good. Maybe allow bars open, but table seating with proper distance and no at-the-bar seating for now. Restaurants and churches could maybe open up if they install these new air filters that improve circulation cleanliness.
And open schools up with desks at proper distances and teachers with masks. Solutions to just move forward, not dangling the public with "cross this metric and we'll lock down."
My rambling 2 cents.
Anyway, somethings gotta give. These protest have gotta stop - they make what was already an amplified and difficult situation
into something more harsh to the determent of all communities. Level and balanced ideas are removed for more knee jerked reactions
by the politicians.
Good thoughts.
