I've defended the protesters more than anyone and have never defended violence of any kind
Criticizing Trump's response to the violent protests (which has only made them bigger and more violent) is not the same as defending those committing the violent acts.
Speaking of violence, Trump missed an opportunity to praise the non-violent approach of John Lewis. If more young people understood what he accomplished through non-violent tactics, the current protesters would likely act differently.

I just think that the local police were doing a better job dealing with them than the feds have.

Just put a curfew in and all of the violence stops.
Besides, their mothers are marching with them, they can just
say " kids obey the curfew, time to put down bricks and lasers, and go home"
