The former do not have the requirement of voter ID while the latter do. There are many states that require voter ID, and this would bypass those laws as constitutionally passed (a goal of the Left for many years).
I will not even delve into the innacuracies of the voter list or the potential for fraud and abuse. let's just focus on the absentee ballot issue.
For people who are afraid to go to the voting poll (which is utter bullshit by the way as we both agree), wny not use the absentee ballots as already available and far more secure?
That's how I see it.

electronically not sufficient? Instead, you are proposing just automatically sending ballots to all registered voters... to whatever address is on file.

I bet we all know people - usually old people - who are barely leaving their houses. Irrational, but they can’t be talked out of their fear.
That’s why.
And you are misinformed about how it works. Secretaries of State across the country - including GOP ones - have universally asserted their accuracy and low fraud counts. Look it up.
......you want a massive and risky change for a small amount of people that are not drawn along party lines, but age and risk.
Would it not be more prudent to push fo absentee ballot acquisition accommodations for these few if this is really the Left’s concern?
Can you actually not see the absurdity of your claim:
“I don’t agree with them, but there are those who are afraid to peak out of their homes (except for the grocery store every week), and we have to change the whole system to accommodate them. This change will coincidentally eliminate voter ID across all 50 states which is only by luck related to the goal of my Dem party, and the fact that my opponents feel it opens up the doors for abuse is meaningless because we would never cheat”
And you expect us to buy this.
Seems to me that we are just giving people a vote-by-mail option - which, as all secs of State say, is safe and fraud-free.
We are not mandating vote-by-mail. We are not overhauling anything, it seems to me.
process.
Certainly, you could at least acknowledge that such a plan would be understandly troubling to your opponents the Republicans. If the shoe was on the other foot, you would also have concerns.

We forget that in your world, voting is a privilege.
My guess is that you typically wait less than 30 minutes in line to cast your vote at your polling station.
My guess is that you do not have to wait 8 hours in line and hire a babysitter to watch your kids after working an 8 hour shift at $15/hour.
My guess is that unlike trustworthy military personnel who cast their absentee ballots, you assume that the above single parent who follows her state’s mail in voting protocol is untrustworthy.
Keep guzzling Trump’s and Fox News’ snake oil.
Let’s make voting more difficult and more deadly during a pandemic. Never mind America’s exorbitant COVID death toll.
