The CBO today estimated that the deficit for 2020 will be in the range of $3.3 trillion.
Governments need to spend during crises....but then they need to recover during good times. We did not do this from about 2014 (or earlier, depending on when you think the recession ended) to 2019.
direction when the economy was in trouble.
Which is great, because if Biden wins, we can let everyone into the country and provide healthcare to them all for free (US is their right, of course), while sending our manufacturing jobs to China so that we can be friends with China again.
Which is manageable as long as revenues continue to rise. Which they are not.
Back when people like me were trumpeting this inevitability, you were dismissing that it was a problem at all.
"Where's the Tea Party?"
You and your ilk, shouted them down, called 'em racists and doxxed 'em.
The deficits have been increasing rapidly since 2016, with this crazy increase today.
The deficit is far less likely to be a problem at about 500bn/year than it is at 1T to 3T per year.
I don't know when he said it, but it is far more likely that deficits like those in 2014-2016 would not have been a problem, while deficits of the last three years are.

Deficits at 3% GDP may well be sustainable in perpetuity, even if not reversible. Much over 3% is problematic without a great deal of inflation.
The increase in interest increases the deficit which increases the debt. There is no magic sustainable deficit percentage. We should be paying down the debt when times are good to prepare for times that aren't.
My point is that the interest payments on the debt are becoming crippling and this crippling effect will increase on a logarithmic scale over time.

Will you be fiscally conservative when Biden gets elected and doubles down on spending?
(no message)
Seriously, I couldn't agree more. But, it will never happen. I gave up on this issue a while ago.
Don't get me wrong, I'm still a fiscal conservative, but neither party has any interest in being fiscally responsible, so it is just a waste of time to even talk about it...unless you are just trying to score points against the other party like Chris is. That seems to be the only reason to talk about it these days...just another political football.
I assume we will have to announce the "New Dollar" at some point, and we can all trade in our Dollars for New Dollars at a 10,000:1 rate...if we are lucky.
Got gold?
