And before you write it off as mere partisan tripe, remember this: Texas is turning blue. Maybe not in 2020, but soon. The demographics make it inevitable. And when that happens, the GOP will also be in favor of electoral college reform, since without it they will not win the presidency for generations.

The electoral college is not about identity it is about avoiding what de Tocqueville called the Tyranny of the Majority. Having grown up out west decades ago I was always keenly aware of and resentful of the Eastern elites trying to impose their narrow minded views about EVERYTHING on the rest of the country. One size does not fit all... except in Mao's China and Pot Pol's Cambodia. What might work in Manhattan would be a disaster in Butte... especially given the state of the rotten apple today. Texas is changing... and it's disaffected Californians who are moving there... and Tex/Mex voters are a lot more conservative than the people of Boston.
No way should we eliminate the EC. Imagine if the messes known as California and New York got to force their wisdom on us all!
Also, your claim that Texas turns blue assumes a stagnant field.
Have you read about the trends in Hispanic voting? I expect this with AA voting to a lesser extent as well.
Generally, the college makes sense.
Because of GOP orchestrated voter suppression in certain states, the college should only survive if the nation passes voting rights legislation (e.g. John Lewis House Bill).
Tired of GOP stealing states.

Has that guy looked at a map? Is he suggesting that without the EC the south might be all red, and the northeast all blue?
Bookmark that guy in your mind. In 2030 he’ll be arguing the opposite.

I think that argument could go either way and certainly today the system reinforces regionalism
- If I can't win in Texas (pick your state) then why should I even go there?"
I like the idea of forcing a national coalition to win an election but not sure the electoral college does that ... and also not sure that a popular vote would.
You’ll have to pry my Electoral College from my cold dead fingers.
